Lay Servant BASIC Course
Requires a letter of recommendation from the pastor. This course is the foundation for all the other texts in the Learning and Leading series for lay servants (and must be taken first!). In this course, students are encouraged to recognize and employ personal spiritual gifts for the church in order to use them as God fully intended. Participants are invited to consider the importance of exercising servant leadership, developing future leaders, remaining rooted in consistent spiritual practices and being part of a group that holds members accountable in discipleship. It offers guidelines for best practices as a church leader and outlines a number of ministries in which you as lay servants may assume roles.
Leading in Pastoral Care - Lay Pastoral Care Giving
How do you learn to care for others in the community – whether the community of faith or the extended community? Some people seem to have natural gifts, but most can learn to improve their caring skills. This course offers insights into the life span and the dynamics of contemporary life to help church leaders reach out with God’s love and care to others.
Discover Your Spiritual Gifts
This course helps participants understand spiritual gifts and how the church can use them to fulfill its mission and ministry. Participants will also learn what it means to be a spiritual leader and will be equipped to lead others in exploring and using their spiritual gifts.
Note: Lay servants are required to take one advanced course every three years in order to retain their certification. However, it is good to take courses more frequently to add skills and expand contacts in the household of faith.
