"Community" is another word for "fellowship" and in the scriptures is called "koinonia." which means communion, joint participation; the sharing and caring that one experiences in participating in the church family. It happens during times of worship, learning, serving and, of course, through intentional caring and of coming together just to be together!
EXPERIENCING COMMUNITY AT SALEM:
Members of our congregation provide watchcare for families of our congregation.
We seek to care for persons or families who cannot attend church, such as our homebound and others with ongoing needs.
Specially-trained members of our congregation provide a listening ear and support for those going through a loss or other difficulty. If you're in need, please contact the church office. Rev. Andy Peabody will connect you with a Stephen Minister.
We reach out with a note reminding people of God's love, and the reassurance of our care and prayers.
A regular phone call to members who are vulnerable, to make sure that they are okay and to provide reassuring contact.
Bereavement Meal Teams
When a Salem family experiences the loss of a loved one in their immediate family, we provide a meal to show our love and to meet the practical need of providing food at a time when they have other things to focus on.
Wednesday Prayer Group
The Wednesday Prayer Group offers intercessory prayer for many. While we know of many needs, Call the church office to alert us of including you or someone else in our prayers.
The ministerial staff provides care at times of crisis and funerals. We offer counseling to those who seek help. And we share in the joy of participating in weddings.
United Methodist Men
Men of the church enjoy a breakfast meeting the 2nd Sunday of each month in the Family Life Center.
United Methodist Women
"United Methodist Women is a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church." A very active group at Salem, the UMW is also supportive of all kinds of activities and ministries of the church.
A fellowship group of older adults. We enjoy a monthly outing to a local restaurant, staying active and staying in touch.
Nursery care is provided for infants and toddlers at both Sunday morning services, the monthly Second Sunday (evening) service, and on Wednesday (if we are alerted that you need the nursery at Supper or the Studies).
At Salem we think of our nursery ministry as a part of our "practicing community." Our youngest ones may not learn in the same way that older children, youth, and adults do; but they "learn" that church is about experiencing the love and care of God through God's people. Volunteers are always needed to work alongside our nursery staff.
Finally, you can be confident in entrusting your child to us because we are a "Safe Sanctuary" congregation.

Coffee, juice, and pastries are offered before the 9:30 Bridge Service on Sunday mornings.
We feed our Youth at the beginning of Youth Fellowship, 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday evenings.
Wednesday Night Supper
The church family enjoys a prepared meal; reservations are not required, but are very helpful (call the church office at 770-786-6027). We begin serving after our blessing at 5:30 p.m. Persons arrive and join us during the supper as they are able; at 6:15 we share joys and concerns and conclude with prayer.
Second Sunday Night Service Refreshments
On the second Sunday night of each month we have an informal worship service. It is proceeded with refreshments beginning at 5:30 p.m. You are asked to bring something salty or sweet to share!
Family Night Supper
On the third Sunday evening of the month we have a covered-dish supper in the Family Life Center. Bring a favorite dish or two to share and be prepared to enjoy some great food prepared by Salem's wonderful cooks.
Mission Lunches / UMW Fundraising Lunches
Our Missions Committee and the United Methodist Women both sponsor occasional after-church lunches. Your free-will gifts in the basket go toward funding missions trips and other mission outreach efforts.
Taste of Salem!
An annual event in which Salem's best cooks "compete" in several categories of cuisine. You buy tickets at the door entitling you to a sample of the dishes of your choice. Then we vote on our favorites and the winners are recognized. You are invited to cook & compete, or just come & eat!
The United Methodist Men sponsor this annual event.
We sponsor Bridal and Baby Showers for these happy occasions in Salem families' lives.
