Community
"Community" is another word for "fellowship" and in the scriptures is called "koinonia." which means communion, joint participation; the sharing and caring that one experiences in participating in the church family. It happens during times of worship, learning, serving and, of course, through intentional caring and of coming together just to be together!
EXPERIENCING COMMUNITY AT SALEM:
CONGREGATIONAL CARE Wesleyan Stewards Members of our congregation provide watchcare for families of our congregation. Nurture Committee We seek to care for persons or families who cannot attend church, such as our homebound and others with ongoing needs. Stephen Ministry Specially-trained members of our congregation provide a listening ear and support for those going through a loss or other difficulty. If you're in need, please contact the church office. Rev. Dixon will connect you with a Stephen Minister. Card Ministry We reach out with a note reminding people of God's love, and the reassurance of our care and prayers. In-Touch Calls A regular phone call to members who are vulnerable, to make sure that they are okay and to provide reassuring contact. Bereavement Meal Teams When a Salem family experiences the loss of a loved one in their immediate family, we provide a meal to show our love and to meet the practical need of providing food at a time when they have other things to focus on. PRAYER MINISTRY Wednesday Prayer Group The Wednesday Prayer Group offers intercessory prayer for many. While we know of many needs, Call the church office to alert us of including you or someone else in our prayers. Chapel Team Altar Team PASTORAL CARE The ministerial staff provides care at times of crisis and funerals. We offer counseling to those who seek help. And we share in the joy of participating in weddings. GROUPS United Methodist Men Men of the church enjoy a breakfast meeting the 2nd Sunday of each month in the Family Life Center. United Methodist Women "United Methodist Women is a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church." A very active group at Salem, the UMW is also supportive of all kinds of activities and ministries of the church. Salem Seniors A fellowship group of older adults. We enjoy a monthly outing to a local restaurant, staying active and staying in touch. NURSERY MINISTRY Nursery care is provided for infants and toddlers at both Sunday morning services, the monthly Second Sunday (evening) service, and on Wednesday (if we are alerted that you need the nursery at Supper or the Studies). At Salem we think of our nursery ministry as a part of our "practicing community." Our youngest ones may not learn in the same way that older children, youth, and adults do; but they "learn" that church is about experiencing the love and care of God through God's people. Volunteers are always needed to work alongside our nursery staff. Finally, you can be confident in entrusting your child to us because we are a "Safe Sanctuary" congregation.
